Message from Our President

As we consider winterizing our rigs or migrating to warmer climates and recalling last year’s experiences, let’s look forward to what next year has in store. I hope to see everyone at the Christmas Luncheon on December 5 to get more input from members on rallies and caravans. At the Feast Rally I asked members to help organize our events so CIU activities would be the product of many more minds, and you responded.

Patsy Marston and the Ansons promptly offered to organize the Youth/Buddy Rally and they already have lots of ideas. Dan Kachele, with the help of the Sherleys, is planning a caravan for us in October (check the website for details) and the Beals have graciously offered their expertise by “sampling” prospective restaurants. Tough job, but someone has to do it. The Beals have also created a Facebook page for CIU, so we can network when we can’t be together. Thank you to all these members who offered their time and energy to make CIU even better. Let’s all make a special effort to encourage members who have not attended recent events to join us in the coming year!

Membership is our lifeblood and I will be passing along ways to invite non-WBCCI and CIU Airstream owners to join in our fun and fellowship. Dan Kachele, Carolyn Beardshear, and Karen Bell have developed a CIU handout to leave with prospective members. Call or email me if you would like some of these brochures to distribute when you meet a new Airstream owner or see an Airstream without numbers.

One recruitment idea proposed was having Airstream “Open Houses” at shopping centers around central Indiana. For a few hours several trailers would open their doors to visitors, allowing the curious public a peek inside a legendary Silver Bullet. Several members have volunteered to participate and we’ll be setting up these dates and locations in the spring. Call or email me to participate.
I would invite members to send me (zimm5292@hotmail.com) a brief summary of their non-CIU Airstream activities for the website, so all of us can share in your “Airstream adventures” and pick up some tips on good destinations. Also, if you have an Airstream to sell or are looking for a new “ride” let me know. We are going to create a “Classified” page for our website.

We have received an invitation from the Indiana Unit to attend their spring rally in Rockville, IN, May 13-16. More details to follow in a later Ticker and on the website. We are reciprocating with an invitation to our Crossroads of America Rally later in May.

As president I am looking forward to an exciting year of rallies, caravans, meeting old friends, and making new ones. I want to invite all of you to help find new ways to make our Airstream adventures available to both working and retired members, helping to expand our Central Indiana circle.

Mike Zimmermann, President
